My Favorite Cup for Work & Play: Hydro Flask Tumbler 22 oz

Hydro Flask elevates drinking at the workstation to a whole new level with the insulated tumbler. I’ve always been a disposable cup kind of guy, but after using the Hydro Flask, I can say that I will never go back to using those Styrofoam and paper cups. I love my Hydro Flask Tumbler and it is my go to cup at for work and road trips.

The magical Hydro Flask Tumbler will keep my hot beverages hot and cold beverages cold for supernaturally long periods of time when compared to traditional mugs and disposable cups. In addition, the Hydro Flask Tumbler exterior will never get too hot to hold nor will it ever get so cold that condensation will form on the exterior. It looks great and feels great.

From the first time we tried a Hydro Flask, our family has been big fans of their water bottles. A few years ago we got everyone in our family a fancy water bottle by Hydro Flask because we loved the fact that we could fill them with ice water early in the day, hike up a 14,000 foot mountain and still have icy cold water to drink during the hike back down.

As a radiologist, I work at home and at the hospital. I am at my workstation for almost 9 hours at a time and having my favorite beverage at the correct temperature is important. It may seem trivial, but it is the little things in life that bring me joy and having hot drinks stay hot and cold drinks stay cold brings me joy. Few things are worse to drink than a room temperature Diet Mountain Dew that has been watered down by melted ice.

The disposable cups at the hospital do little to help beverages maintain their temperature and after a few hours I find myself needing to make a trip to the cafeteria for a refresh of my drink. With my Hydro Flask, I find that for hot drinks, I fill up my cup once and my hot beverage will remain hot until the last sip, far longer than any paper cup or mug.

As for cold drinks, I like to go heavy on the ice but often find that my drinks get watered down as the ice quickly melts in traditional disposable cups. With the Hydro Flask Tumbler, I find that I need less ice to keep my drinks icy cold through the day, which also significantly decreases the dilution effect of the melting ice on my beverage.

Convenience

The Hydro Flask is the perfect size for my drinking needs and I find that I now go to replace my beverages far less, thereby saving me more time during the day to do my work. The Hydro Flask boasts that it will keep hot drinks hot for 6 hours and cold drinks cold for 24 hours. I can report that those numbers seem right when conducting my own unscientific study in a 71 degree temperature controlled reading room within the bowels of the hospital.

Cleaning

Because the Hydro Flask is not meant for the dishwasher, I rinse mine out several times each day and hand wash mine a few times each week. The tumbler is easy to clean and the press in lid is also surprisingly easy to clean.

Durability

This is a heavy duty cup made of stainless steel. That being said, it’s not indestructible and  if dropped the cup may dent. I’ve read that repeated washings in the dishwasher or submerging in soapy dish water for long periods of time may discolor the external powder coating, so I try to avoid doing so with my precious tumbler.

Cost

At a retail cost of $30, this cup is comparable to other high performing stainless steel and insulated tumblers in its class such as those by Yeti. But after reviewing the competition, the Hydro Flask Tumbler is the best in its class. I love it and I highly recommend it. Check out Amazon for current pricing.
